Did Billie Eilish Just Commit Voter Fraud?
Yesterday was National Voter Registration Day, and many musicians and actors posted pro-vote messages. Singer Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas, posted a message with the caption:
It’s National Voter Registration Day. We are voting for Harris-Walz. The choice is clear. Check your voting status here: Iwillvote.com
In the post, which received over 47,000 comments, some foreigners asked how they could vote in a U.S. election:
Douglass Mackey’s Newsletter outlines what occurs when a social media influencer posts messages about voting. Mackey was sentenced to 7 months in prison for what was termed “election interference” in 2023. Now in 2024, we see Eilish targeting all of her viewers with this video, without including any sort of disclaimer that the message is meant for U.S. citizens only. Does this matter?
Yes. Knowingly procuring eligibility to vote for federal office by persons who are not entitled to vote under applicable state law, notably persons who are not United States citizens (currently all states) (52 U.S.C. §§ 10307(c), 20511(2); 18 U.S.C. §§ 1015(f), 611) is “conduct that constitutes federal election fraud”. Spreading a message to Australians who cannot vote in U.S. elections, is weird.
On September 17th, Eilish repeated false claims about Project 2025 and Trump’s nonexistent connection to that group. Per the DOJ:
Various types of conduct that may adversely affect the election of a federal candidate may not constitute a federal election crime, despite what in many instances might be their reprehensible character. For example, a federal election crime does not normally involve irregularities relating to: (1) distributing inaccurate campaign literature…
We also have to ask ourselves how much money Eilish received to post this pro Harris/Walz clip. According to the U.S. Department of Justice:
Most Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) violations become crimes when they aggregate $2,000 or more in a calendar year.
Eilish’s decision to post this message with her brother Finneas also raised some eyebrows. The siblings slept together in the same bed until she was eleven years old, and he was ten years old. For the past six years, viewers wondered about incest between Eilish and her brother. Yesterday, a Facebook group snagged a photo of Eilish’s brother supposedly sleeping with her in the nude, a photo that was quickly deleted:
